Todos Santos, Where to Stay

In Todos Santos:

Hotel California: on Juarez between Morelos and Marquez de Leon. Tel and fax: 011-52-114-50-002. Legend has this as the hotel from the Eagles song. The very helpful manager, Manuel, swears to it. I like to believe it's true. Colonial style building and furniture. Get one of the front rooms upstairs facing the street.

Has a small pool and a restaurant/ bar, although the hours of operation seem fairly erratic. A single will cost you $35.00, double $42.00

Santa Rosa Hotel and Apartments: On Calle Pedrajo two blocks west of the main road to Cabo. Tel: 011-52-114-40394. Really attractive, newer property with eight modern, nicely furnished units. I didn't stay here but I would, especially for a longer stay. Not as central as Hotel California, but nothing is far away in this town. Nicest pool in town.

Hosteria Las Casitas: Calle Rangel between Obregon and Hidalgo. Tel and fax: 011-52-114-50288. Really interesting love of labor for the owner, Canadian Wendy Faith. Three old adobe cottages have been renovated into a still rustic but comfortable inn. Plants and art are everywhere and the price of a room includes breakfast for one (anyone else pays). Rates run from $25.00-$45.00 depending on the room. Drew Barrymore and her boyfriend stayed there recently, as well as a crew from Rolling Stone magazine. They were there for a photo shoot and interview with Bon Jovi. I guess Drew was quite a scene with her hip huggers and tattoos shooting pool in the pool hall. That must mean this place is on the map.

The Todos Santos Inn: currently being renovated, this will be the high priced lodge in town when it opens in January (?). Rates will be $65.00 with breakfast, but it will probably be worth it. It's in a beautiful old building with murals from the 1930's. I'll probably try it when I take my wife next year.

Others: There are a couple of other choices in the $10.00-$12.00 range which are probably OK, but I don't think I really want to recommend them. If anyone has better information on any of these lodgings, please let us know.
