Things to Know
Flying
There: As always, check
AeroMexico’s webpage for their daily specials. Most flights to Veracruz
connect from Mexico City. It is a short 30-minute flight from the capital.
Hotel
Imperial: Tel: (2) 932-1204. Email:
imperialver@prodigy.net.mx
Miguel Lerdo No. 153, Veracruz. Rooms start at about $50US. Founded in
1794, this favorite hotel faces the Plaza de Armas. Old World elegance, this is
my favorite hotel in town. Satellite TV, air con, indoor pool, good restaurant.
Hotel
Colonial: Tel: (2) 932-0193. Email:
hcolonial@infosel.net.mx
Miguel Lerdo No. 117, Veracruz. Not as nice as the Imperial, but the
front balcony rooms are a good bargain at around $40US. Interior rooms are
cheaper. The sidewalk restaurant is very good. Satellite TV, air con and fans,
dreary indoor pool.
Fiesta
Inn: Tel: (2) 923-1011, Toll free from
U.S. (800) FIESTA1. Web page:
www.fiestainn.com
This hotel was days away
from opening and looked to be first class, although a room will run around $100.
Call for special deals. Quiet area, minutes walking from waterfront and the
plaza. All amenities.
Hotel Mocambo:
Tel:
(2) 922-0205. Four miles south of town center on the beach, the hotel reflects a
Veracruz of the past. A little worn from when it set the standard, but still a
nice stay. Doubles start $70-$80, but ask for specials.
