San Miguel de Allende Hotel Possibilities

In addition to the hotels listed below, short and long term stays with Mexican families are available. There are also many apartments and houses for rent. A good source of information is the English language weekly Atención. They have three-month subscriptions available in the U.S. for $20 US, or maybe they will send you a single copy for less money. The telephone/fax number in San Miguel is (415) 2-37-70.

Posada de las Monjas: Canal 37. Tel: (415) 2-01-71. Very comfortable, if not luxurious. The rooms vary from small to large, most with sunset views down the hill. Many repeat customers like the attention paid by the management. A rare, large parking lot for cars if you are driving. Bright and airy with several patios make this a fine bargain. Rates vary from $18 US depending on season and size of room.

Posada San Francisco: Plaza Principal 2, across from the jardín. Tel: (415) 2-24-25. Recommended by local travel agent Detlev Kappstein. Beautiful 18th century building with 32 rooms, many facing the courtyard. For heavy sleepers, try a balcony-front room overlooking the jardín. Rooms are in the $30 US to $40 US range.

Hotel Meson de San Antonio: Mesones 80. Tel: (415) 2-05-80. Several of the rooms are townhouse designed with the bedroom upstairs. Color TV has cable channels showing movies in English. Nice courtyard with clean swimming pool. I had a very nice stay at this quiet, well maintained hotel. Moderately priced starting at $25 US.

Posada Carmina: Cuna de Allende 7. Tel: (415) 2-04-58. I tried to get a room, but they were booked. Everyone I talked to liked the place and there must be a reason. Yet another beautiful restaurant/ courtyard, the hotel is just off the jardín. The rates here are pushing $35 US to $50 US.

There are many more fine hotels from which to choose. I suggest buying a guidebook like Mexico Handbook and though prices are often outdated due to changing times, make a decision, book a room for a night, then when you get to town, personally view different hotels and choose one that you like. With the close proximity, you can see ten or more hotels on a morning stroll.

To contact Detlev Kappstein, the owner of Viajes San Miguel Travel Agency, tel: (415) 2-25-37, 2-28-32, or 2-29-34; fax: (415) 2-25-38. He doesn't get a commission from all the hotels but he'll help you anyway. You can trust his judgment and honesty.
