Puerto Vallarta, Recommended Hotels

Hotel Posada de Roger: 237 Basiho Badillo. Tel: (322) 2-08-36, 2-06-39, Fax: 3-04-82. Single 100 pesos, double 120 pesos. Note: I like the rooms with the balcony overlooking the street, although they can be noisy. The ceiling fans are preferable to A.C.

Hotel Molino de Agna: Vallarta 130. Tel: (322) 2-1 9-07, Fax: 2-60-56. Tree covered grounds with bungalows and suites bordering the south side of the Rio Cuale and the beach. Currently closed for renovation, will re-open in November. I am unsure of prices at this time, but it has always been a good value. Real pleasant and quiet place.

Casa Corazon: Amapas 328. Tel: (322) 2-13-71 or in U.S. (505) 523-4666 or 523-4684. A four level villa built on the hillside overlooking the Banderas Bay. Very romantic. great views from the upper three rooms. Includes breakfast and has a great beach out front. The prices always seem to be negotiable. I have paid as little as $20.00 double and as much as $45.00 depending on season, room and occupancy. Highly recommended.

Puerto Vallarta Beach Hotel: On the beach real close to Casa Corazon. Tel: (322) 2-50-40, Fax: 2-21-76. A newer, attractive hotel and priced right for what you get. A standard room with a dynamite view is $32.00 double off season, will probably be $50.00 in season. Has rooms with small kitchens for $39.00/ $55.00 depending on season. Not many people know of this place, so negotiate your price. They want your business. Has nice rooftop pool and restaurant.

Bed and Breakfast at Tia Adriana's: in Sayulita. Tel: (619) 942-9640 or write between November and June: APDO 5. La Penita, De Jaltemba Nayarit, Mexico 63726. Rates between $35.00 and $75.00.

Papa's Palapas: in Sayulita. Tel: (805) 489-3840. Bungalows rent for $35.00 per night and will sleep four.

Other possibilities: You will see signs in this south end area offering condos and apartments for rent. Check them out. It is not unusual to find a nice, fully appointed unit on the beach for $50.00 or less. If you want to stay in a full on resort in the $100.00 range, I suggest the Camino Real, about a mile south of town. It is in a beautiful cove, surrounded by jungle. It's not a bad place to spend the afternoon even if you aren't a guest, for the pool, beach, and lunch. To use the pool and get a chair and towel, offer the pool guy a couple of bucks (surreptitiously) for the privilege.
