Maya Trip,
A Magical Trip
Highlighting the Maya Civilization
Far Horizons Archaeological
and Cultural Trips will be sponsoring a March 18 - 27, 2000, archaeological
expedition deep into the rain forest of Central America. The itinerary begins in
Copán and Quiriguá, two breathtaking sites that have attracted explorers and
scientists for 150 years. Participants will take an “African Queen” boat
ride through tropical waterways to the splendid sites of the Petex-Batún. They
will stay in a remote jungle lodge shadowed by dense rainforest and overlooking
a forest enshrouded lagoon situated within the site center of Punta de Chimino.
Eons ago a huge fissure split the earth, and when building their city of
Aguateca, the ancient Maya constructed a bridge that still stands today across
this immense crack in the earth. The investigation of the Maya concludes in the
National Park of Tikal with an exploration of the largest and most spectacular
of the Mayan cities and walks along the forest trails that lace the park.
The trip leader is Christine
Carrelli, Research Supervisor of the Early Copán Acropolis Project of the
University of Pennsylvania. The trip cost of $3,395 per person (double
occupancy) includes round trip airfare from Miami. For further information

Far Horizons Archaeological
and Cultural Trips has announced a guided tour to the capital cities of the
ancient Maya, a trip limited to twelve participants. This eight-day excursion
begins in Copán and Quiriguá, two cities that have attracted explorers and
scientists for 150 years, and continues to the enormous Maya center of Tikal,
where participants will walk through the canopy-shadowed trails that lace the
park. From there, the trip progresses to Palenque, which is perhaps the most
beautiful of the Mesoamerican cities. Participants will be hosted at Palenque by
the archaeological staff and will be given private entrée into areas of the
site which are normally closed to the public. This trip will be led by Dr. Dorie
Reents-Budet, a noted author and the director of the Museum of World Cultures.
The dates of the trip are May 20 - 27, 2000, and the $3495 per person double
occupancy cost of the trip includes round trip air far from Houston to Honduras,
with return from Villahermosa, Mexico. For further information, contact Far
