K’u-Kuul-Kaan Academy
K’u-Kuul-Kaan Academy,
located in Merida, the "White City" of the
Yucatan Peninsula, is a unique center offering a unique
integration of Spanish language courses taught by experienced
professionals, and knowledge of the ancient sacred Mayan
tradition. We are the only school in Latin America to present this
blend. Choose either Spanish language courses or Mayan workshops,
or combine classes from both units.
What makes us different is that we teach the heart of the Mayan
spiritual principles. Once could say that the heart of
K’u-Kuul-Kaan Academy is a Mayan heart. Our purpose is to assist
in the reemergence of the visions and values of Mayan wisdom in
everyone who wants to work with us.
For 17 years, Don Vicente, a professional teacher, Mayan elder,
wisdomkeeper and artist, taught Miguel Angel Vergara Calleros the
Mayan way of wisdom through the philosophical language, astronomy,
codices, and the closest relationship between man and nature.
After Don Vicente’s death, Miguel Angel, with Mary Lightning Locke
and Sue Hackenmiller, have continued Don Vicente’s dream of
manifesting an educational center dedicated to these principles.
We represent an emerging paradigm - a partnership of equals,
collaborating from a basis of compassion and respect, each with
unique strengths, unconditional support of each other and the
planet. This type of close working relationship is indeed the
Mayan way. It is a way of balance, integrity and harmony.
K’u-Kuul-Kaan means "The God You Venerate in the Infinite" and is
the ancient name of the Feathered Serpent powerfully representing
the wisdom of the heavens. K’u-Kuul-Kaan Academy is supported not
only by a powerful sacred name, but also by the vision of Don
Vicente, who saw in this symbolic name the representation of Mayan
wisdom.
Don Vicente saw the Mayan culture as the most perfect culture in
the world. It is our intention to embody the essence of the
eternal source of this wisdom at the Academy. Everyone who is
interested in rescuing and embracing the Mayan culture is helping
the labor of the Mayan Masters of Light who give us the inner
strength to open our minds and hearts in order to understand the
purpose of being here in this life on this planet. Everyone who
decides to become a messenger of the sacred Mayan way has a path
that is designed by the Mayan Masters in the Infinite. We invite
